As the population grows and the economy blossoms, real estate development is inevitable. Developers build new structures and remodel existing buildings. People search for affordable housing near their jobs. However, things aren’t that simple – many communities of color exist due to historical conditions that forced them into certain areas. As people and developers encroach on their space, there’s an unavoidable shift. It is this moment that provides a unique opportunity- the neighborhood can either be gentrified or revitalized.
